Windows
Working with Windows
The ENPS desktop is designed to let you keep multiple types of content on your screen at the same time, allowing you to write a Story, view the Rundown for an upcoming broadcast, see incoming urgent wire stories, and watch for incoming messages from other ENPS users.
The ENPS windows are designed to be flexible so that you can resize the windows to fit your needs. To resize a window move the cursor over the window boundary until the or icon appears and drag it until the window reaches the desired size.
Pinning
Many of the windows in the ENPS Client are designed to offer you a quick glimpse at their content without opening a new tab in a desktop window. For example, if you click on your Personal Folder you will see a list of its contents in a window that overlaps other information on your desktop. These "floating" windows will close as soon as you click outside of them or click the icon. This is useful when you want to do a single operation in the folder, such as open a Story.
To keep the window open on your desktop, click the pin icon. It will stay open until you click the icon to close it.
If you want windows to open already-pinned, you can go to Personal Settings and under List Options > Default Opening View, select Pinned. Click the Apply button and then the Save button to confirm the changes.
Detaching
Windows with the icon can be detached so you can view their contents in a separate window. This is useful on workstations with multiple monitors when you want to move a window to another monitor.
Organizing
Icons in the top right corner of a window allow you to change its orientation on the screen.
|
Maximize and restore the window. If you expand the window to fill the desktop it maximizes available workspace but hides other windows on the desktop. New messages and urgent wires will still be visible, however. |
|
Shift the window to the left or right side of the screen and occupy the full width of the bottom of the desktop. |
|
Restore a window to the bottom left or bottom right if you have enlarged it to fit the full width of the bottom of the screen. |
|
Move the window to occupy the full width of the workspace at the top of the screen. This option is available for Rundowns and Planning Grids. |
|
Toggle Stories between full screen height and half-screen height. |
|
Close the window. |
The following Shortcut Keys can be used with folders that are pinned back in the main ENPS screen; they do not work with floating or detached windows.
Ctrl Page Up / Ctrl Page Down |
Switch between windows. |
Ctrl Tab / Ctrl Shift Tab |
Switch between items in the same window. |
Ctrl Shift C |
Close the current item. |
Ctrl Shift X |
Close all open items in the same window. |
Tabs
When you open multiple items in a window you will see a tabbed view with different content on each tab.
To close an individual item click the icon on the right side of the tab. To close all of the tabs in the window click the icon on the far right side of the window. If you have unsaved data in any one of the tabs you will be prompted to save the contents of the tab before all are closed.
If you have a large number of windows open you can click the icon to easily navigate to the tab you want to select.
To move an item to a different window, simply drag it using its tab into the destination window.
If the number of open tabs in a window exceeds the space available to display them, you will see double arrows on the left or right sides of the tabs which allows you to scroll through the other tabs.
