Election Day Tasks

Update the Config File

Do the following on election day:

  1. Launch the AP Elections API Config Editor APElectionsConfigEditor.exe.

  2. Navigate to the path of your config file.

The application will warn you that the date in the election query is today and that you should check the Result Type field to ensure you are downloading election results.

  3. Go to the Result Type field and change the t (lowercase T) to an l (lowercase L).

In this instance, the l stands for live data. As all testing has been completed, AP will only send live data transmissions

  4. Click Save.

The URL will be updated to reflect resulttype=l. This is a lowercase L and not an uppercase i.

  5. Click Update Config File.

  6. Click Exit.

  7. Open Windows Services and start (or restart) the ENPS Elections API Ingest Service.

Managing Server Load

The default interval at which the News Object Manager (NOM) looks for election results placed in the ELECTION queue by the News Wire Profiler (NWP) is 250 ms. However, if the NOM appears sluggish on election day due to the volume of election results, this value can be changed by your System Administrator as needed by adjusting the Election Item Interval value in the NOM Configuration/Status window. The valid range for this setting is 50 to 5000 ms.

It is not necessary to restart the NOM after changing this value.
